How to back up your phone before a repair

Most repairs don’t touch your data, but a backup takes a few minutes and protects you if something goes wrong. It’s also the first step before selling or trading in a phone.

iPhone

Connect to Wi-Fi and plug the phone in. Open Settings, tap your name, then iCloud, then iCloud Backup, and tap Back Up Now. You can also back up to a computer. Menus change a little between versions.

Android

Connect to Wi-Fi. In Settings, look for Google and then Backup, and tap Back up now. Photos can be backed up in Google Photos. Many Samsung phones also have Samsung Cloud or Smart Switch. Menus vary by phone.

If the screen is broken

If you can still see and tap the screen a little, start the backup. If you can’t, tell us when you bring it in. We can often still help, and we’ll tell you what’s possible.

What to bring to the shop

  • The phone and its charger, if you have it.
  • Your passcode. We’ll ask you before we need it.
  • Any case or SIM tray if it’s stuck.
  • Details of what’s wrong and when it started.

Also before a repair

Write down your Apple ID or Google account email, so you’re ready to sign in again if needed. Keep Find My or the Google equivalent on unless the shop asks you to change it.

Need a hand with this?

Bring the device in during opening hours. We check it first and tell you what it needs and what it costs before any work starts.
