Phone Stuck on the Apple Logo or in a Boot Loop: What to Try
If your iPhone is stuck on the Apple logo or restarts again and again, a few safe steps are worth trying first: let it charge, force restart it, then try an update from a computer. If none of that works, it needs an inspection.

A phone that hangs on the logo is often hitting a software problem during startup. Before anything else, plug it into a wall charger with a cable you trust and leave it for a while. A phone that is very low on power can get stuck at the logo or keep restarting.
Next, try a force restart. The button combination depends on your model, so look up the exact steps for yours on Apple's support site. On newer iPhones it generally involves quick presses of the volume buttons followed by holding the side button until the logo appears again. Keep holding even if the screen goes dark for a moment.
Also take off any case and unplug accessories. A damaged cable or a bad charging connection can make a phone look like it's boot looping when the real problem is the power coming in.
Update from a computer, but don't erase
If a force restart doesn't help, the next step is recovery mode, which lets a computer reinstall the phone's software. You'll need a Mac or a PC and a good cable. Apple's instructions for putting your model into recovery mode are the safest source, since the steps differ between phones.
When the computer offers Update or Restore, choose Update first. Update tries to reinstall the software without erasing your data. Restore wipes the phone. We can't promise Update will work or that nothing will be lost, but it gives you the best chance of keeping your photos and messages if the problem is only software.
If the computer doesn't recognize the phone, the process fails partway through, or the phone drops back to the logo, stop and don't keep repeating it.
What a boot loop can mean
A boot loop can come from a failed update, a corrupted app or system file, or running low on storage. It can also come from a hardware problem, such as a failing component on the board or damage from a drop. We can't tell which one it is from the outside, and a technician has to inspect the phone to know.
That's why we suggest not trying things you find in random videos or forums. Avoid third-party tools that promise a quick fix, and never open the phone yourself. These can make a software problem harder to fix or damage something that was otherwise repairable.
- Do not restore or erase the phone unless you've already backed up, or you accept losing what's on it.
- Do not keep forcing restarts over and over for hours.
- Do not download unknown repair software to your computer.
- Do write down your passcode and Apple Account details, because you may need them.
